FAQs
Do we need a southward-facing roof?
The optimum position for solar panels is a south-facing aspect. However, it’s not essential. If you have a north (or, east/west) facing roof, we can make sure you maximise your access to the sun with proper orientation and by avoiding shade.
Do we need planning consent for roof mounted solar on a commercial building?
Most commercial solar panel installations meet the requirements for ‘Permitted Development’. Permitted development rights allow you to carry out certain building works and changes of use without having to submit a planning application (within reason). As you would expect, there are some limits on permitted development rights – these are designed to protect communities and local amenities from any potentially negative impacts of certain types of projects. For example, if you are located close to a historic (or listed) building – there might be limitations about what is possible. We can signpost you to expert help if necessary.
Do you offer an OSU model for ground-mounted solar?
Typically, our Solar OSU projects are roof-mounted solar arrays. However, we can also apply the same model to ground-mounted solar schemes. The same minimum criteria applies – which means, our model is only viable for schemes with a minimum of 200-kW average load.
Is the Solar OSU model commercially viable for loads less than 200kW?
Our Solar OSU model is designed to futureproof the cost of your energy over the long-term. To make this model commercially viable for everyone – we need to know that you have a reasonable requirement for load. We have calculated the minimum load as 200kW.
Am I responsible for the operation and maintenance of the solar panels after installation?
Our Solar PV On-Site Utility solution is a fully-funded turnkey model that unlocks the benefits of on-site generation. We take care of all of the operation and maintenance for the full duration of the agreement.
What solar PV panels do you use?
For us, quality and reliability is everything. Which is why we only install panels sourced from Tier 1 solar PV manufacturers. This helps us to ensure optimum efficiency and reliability over the full contract duration.
What happens if our circumstances change and the business has to move out / sell the building during the OSU term?
In most cases we are able to novate the contract to the new building occupier / owner. On the rare occasion this isn’t possible (due to factors such as poor credit of the incoming) then a cancellation fee may be due.
Can we get access to data monitoring?
Yes, absolutely. All data collected from the system can be shared with our customers.
Can a Eurosite OSU model be used to fund the deployment of other technologies?
Yes, currently we have OSU models for Solar and Combined Heat & Power (CHP). We are also able to offer bespoke models for other technologies and we continue to work on expanding our standard offering to heat pumps and EV charging.
